Adoption Academy Support for Bucks County Council Adopters
Buckinghamshire County Council have to date contracted Adoption Academy to provide four, 1 day training courses in Building Resilience for Adopters and two Calming the Turmoil Through Movement and Touch. After initial consultants with regards their requirements a programme of training was drawn up and delivered. A workbook was also provided to delegates.
Subjects covered include:
- Understanding their and their childrens’ stress
- Improving their self care and ability to relax
- Managing their reactions and reducing the triggers
- Reducing their stress and developing resilience
- Gaining an insight into what lies behind a childs’ behaviour and how to manage that behaviour
- Developing a greater rapport and connection with their child and improve relationships within the family
- Helping to regulate their child emotionally and staying emotionally regulated themselves
- Modifying their language and thoughts
Positive feedback from delegates and the contractor indicates that further bookings will be made. One adopter described the course as “life changing”.
