Training and mentoring for adopters/carers to create a more harmonious and enjoyable family life
Hi I’m Gill Tree and maybe like me you adopted/fostered to bring more joy and fulfilment into your life, but in reality the stress of the challenging behaviour from your child(ren) has left you feeling desperate and hopeless.
Or you may be a social worker seeking help for such a family. In which case select the For Agencies tab above.
A parenting approach called Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) transformed my relationship with my son and shifted the dynamics in our home – so much so that I became a practitioner of NVR. I have supported hundreds of adopters and carers, bringing harmony and joy back into their lives.

It is likely that you are here because you are desperate to get life back onto an even keel or that you are struggling with your children’s behaviour. (Or you are a professional looking for support for a family). You may want to help with a child who is aggressive, manipulative, controlling, angry, defiant, violent or oppositional.
Adoption Academy is well placed to provide support for adopters/special guardians due to my personal and professional experience.
My lived experience of child to parent violence, attachment disorder and blocked care, provides me with a unique empathy and understanding for other parents and carers.
I have worked with over 120 families and provided 14 NVR group programmes and hundreds of days of training and workshops. I am a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (BABCP) and The NVR Association.

Let me help you make lasting change to the challenging behaviour
Previously, a stressed parent myself when I adopted my son in 2011, a highly traumatised and challenging 3 year old.
Originally a stress management trainer to industry, I provided resilience programmes to families and now specialise in mentoring parents of violent, aggressive and controlling children. CAPVA (Child and adolescent to parent violence and abuse) is more prevalent that you might imagine.
The NVR course has been enlightening and empowering in bringing about positive changes within our home. Gill has provided us with a toolkit of ideas and guidance on how and when to use them in our situation. The atmosphere at home has improved hugely and now, when there are behavioural incidents, the way in which we deal with them has changed and they are over almost as quickly as they begin. It feels like we are now pulling together rather than working against each other.
