Before I became an NVR mentor, resilience trainer and conference speaker…. I was struggling to put in mildly!
I started Stressed Parent in 2014 having become a stressed parent myself when I adopted my son in 2011, a highly traumatised and challenging three-year old. Originally a stress management trainer to industry, I started providing resilience programmes to parents and carers and have since specialised in mentoring parents of violent, aggressive and controlling children.
If you are on the receiving end of defiance, aggression, manipulation and other controlling behaviours, that was me too! Providing me with a unique empathy and understanding.
We received a lot of therapy, but it was an intervention called Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) that turned things around in my family. I became so convinced in the method that I trained in it professionally. Happily, Gill and her teenage son now have a very harmonious family life. (well mostly!).
Since 2014 I have provided training and mentors to families through over twenty adoption and fostering agencies and have developed a unique e-course and NVR parent mentoring via Zoom, called “From Hostility to Harmony, Changing a Challenging Child’s behaviour”.
I’ve had the honour of helping hundreds of parents like you sidestep years of struggle …….
Why am I qualified to do what I do?
I have studied what make people tick since 1998 becoming a Master practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a Neuro-Agility Coach and a Non-Violent Resistance Practitioner. My most valuable qualification however, is my lived experience of child to parent violence and my teenage son, who is a living testament to going through some huge roller-coaster rides with me to becoming a truly amazing young man.
I have been working with stressed parents since 2014, largely through referrals from organisations such as Adoption Support Agencies such as Adopt South-West and Charities such as Kinship My work with adoptive families is funded by the Uk Government's Adoption Support Fund, testimony to the efficacy of the NVR approach.
As part of my professional practice I receive professional supervision from a psychotherapist.
I belong to and follow the professional ethics of the BABCP- British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies.
